Environmental Policy 🍃

In today’s fast-paced world, finding a balance between nature and human needs is more important than ever. It is essential to ensure that natural resources are used responsibly and remain available for future generations. At Villa Wesset Hotel and Restaurant, sustainability is at the heart of our daily operations because we believe that every choice we make contributes to a better future.

We are proud members of the Green Key environmental certification program, and our goal is to use resources more efficiently by making better decisions every day. Below, we share our key focus areas and practical recommendations.

Responsible Use of Resources

We use water, electricity, and heat energy thoughtfully and efficiently because every reduction in consumption helps preserve natural resources and reduce environmental pollution.

  • We use LED lighting and replace older bulbs with LED alternatives.
  • Water-saving aerators are installed on hotel faucets, limiting water consumption to 8 liters per minute.
  • Towels are changed only upon the guest’s request.
  • Bed linens are changed after every third night.
  • In summer, flowers are watered early in the morning to minimize water evaporation.

Practical recommendations for guests:

  • Simply turning off the tap while brushing your teeth can save up to 19 liters of clean water each day.
  • When leaving your room, turn off the TV and lights to reduce energy consumption.

Waste Sorting and Reduction

Waste sorting and minimizing waste generation are crucial steps in environmental protection. We prefer reusable solutions that help save money and reduce plastic use.

  • We sort waste into different categories – plastic, glass, paper, biodegradable, and hazardous waste.
  • To support the circular economy, replaced textiles (duvets, pillows, towels) are donated to charity.
  • In hotel rooms, single-use products have been replaced with a dispenser system.
  • Sorting bins are available in the candy café and stairwells.
  • Kitchen ingredients are packaged in reusable containers.

Practical recommendations for guests:

  • Sort waste in your hotel room as follows: general waste in the trash bin, packaging/bottles next to the bin, and newspapers/cardboard on the table corner.
  • Hand used batteries and accumulators to the administrator for proper disposal.

Local Ingredients and Sustainable Dining

We prioritize local ingredients to support regional producers and reduce the environmental impact of transportation.

  • In 2023, we opened Pärnu’s first Zero Waste chef’s table, where ingredients are used based on a nose-to-tail principle.
  • We offer locally sourced dinners to support Pärnumaa farmers and shorten supply chains.
  • We drink and recommend high-quality local tap water to our guests.

Practical recommendations for guests:

  • At breakfast, take only as much as you can eat – you can always go back for more.
  • Give our specially marked vegan, lactose-free, and gluten-free options a try!

Well-being and Health

Adequate sleep and regular physical activity are essential parts of a sustainable lifestyle. Good sleep supports health, improves concentration, and reduces stress, while movement promotes both mental and physical well-being.

  • The hotel’s beds are made by local manufacturer Rager Trade OÜ.
  • Pärnu has over 70 km of cycling paths, and our hotel offers more than 30 bicycle parking spaces in the summer.
  • The nearest bike rental is just 500 meters away, and bikes can be delivered directly to the hotel entrance upon request.
  • For those who prefer public transport, the nearest bus stop is RANNAPARK.

Collaboration and Community Support

Strong relationships built on cooperation, respect, and care foster positive social connections and a more sustainable community.

  • We value history by reviving the story of former candy manufacturer Elias Wesset.
  • We collaborate with local communities and businesses.
  • We are part of the Pärnumaa consumer label Taxes Paid and have been recognized with the “Best Cooperation Partner 2024” title.
  • Pärnumaa holds the Green Destination label.
